Fibre Optic Testing
All of our fibre terminations are tested in at least two of three available manners.
All tests performed by D-Comm Australia engineers conform and adhere to either current regulations or a clients own regime.
All results are offered on either paper, PDF or disk/USB flash memory with a copy kept here at D-Comm for future reference.
When a splice is fused our splicers automatically check the joint for attenuation. Based upon parameters set within the software of the machine, a splice can be rejected at this stage as being outside attenuation limits.

Optical Time Domain Reflectometer
We can OTDR a fibre thereby giving a graphical account of the state of the installed fibre and the terminations at each end. This test can be undertaken at 850nm or 1310nm for multimode and 1310, 1550nm or 1625nm for singlemode fibre.
From this OTDR trace we can highlight individual splices, connector joints and areas of unusual attenuation in a fibre, enabling our engineers to offer a detailed report on fibre condition.
-
Insertion and Loss Measurement Testing
ILM can be performed at any of the above wavelengths to give a very accurate figure of the overall loss of an installed fibre link.
This figure, given in dB’s is a reference figure against which all future tests can be compared.
We also ensure that the loss figure achieved by our engineers meets the loss budget for your system.
Our engineers are available to perform either OTDR or ILM tests on fibre cables under any conditions, ready installed or still on the drum.
Whether you require your cables to be tested prior or post installation, call us and we will ensure this valuable communications medium will perform.
